I really wanted to like it and has potential, but I cannot recommend it.
Software is very buggy and alerts/notifications don't work as you would expect. (Sometimes I didn't know I had an issue for 3 days until I finally got a notification of a problem.) And if you do have problems, it will try to fix it by doing a full backup again.
This filled my disk storage pretty quickly. The virtual recovery does not work for all of our Windows server, some drives wouldn't be there in the virtual when we tested.
Now I'm kind of stuck with two backup systems as I had to go back to my old system for some of my servers that were having issues. Datto was unable to help.
Our reseller has stopped using them too. Bwlch wrote:Been using Datto Siris for over a year now. I really wanted to like it and has potential, but I cannot recommend it. Our reseller has stopped using them too.How long ago did you have these problems? I will add detail to my comments. We went to Datto and gave the requirements of a customer who we had with a Zenith solution for the past three years. We sold a Datto solution and the customer with normal growth and has now out-grown that box (two months later).
We went back to Datto to say help us with this and we can exchange the box but now we have to eat the high storage fees (because we did not believe in year one we would have to RAISE the cost to the END USER). We never expected that with a Datto Sales person we would outgrow the box in less than two months. Now we have a box that we can no longer back up the required servers that we need.So we tried to maybe purchase a larger box and move the smaller box to another customer. We thought that sales MIGHT be nice to us given this situation. That does not seem to be the case. They are nickel and dimming us. We basically have a quote for 17k and asked for a $54.00 shipping fee to be waived and we were told NO.
We asked if there IS ANY chance to get any type or promotion and we were again told NO.We also a few months ago (April) were told that we would receive a sales promotion because of the special of the month; we still have not received that either. At this point we have several physical Datto servers that are filling up, Sales people who seem not to be helping us. It give us only one solution.Find another solution.David. Hi,I would be cautious of the datto solution. I have been on it now for almost 6 months. I am still not completely protected in my environment. I have constant NTFS issues that come up and my vendors fix to this is always run chkdsk to fix the issues. Never had NTFS issues like this before the product.
Some machines Always fail and my vendor is always re-installing the agents on the machines. I even receive NTFS issues on a new spin up machine that does very little. I am always receiving erros about NTFS and when you go onto this VM and run chkdsk it is clean. My vendor has been little help in resolving these issues and seems to be happy with my fix being running chkdsk.I do have to say once I lost a server and they were able to spin the server up virtually.I am a hyper-V environment and could not restore from Datto back to hyper-v. They had to install a VMware environment to restore back to it and then convert the VMware to Hyper-V.All those little issues have me worried when the big disaster comes and be up and ready to go quickly.I am looking into other environments to see if changing is a viable option. If they can resolve my issues I would be a happy customer as the philosophy and layout is very nice, but nice doesn't give me confidence in the end results.Jim.
Thanks Mark,That is my feeling exactly. There should be no need for the VMware. They said this is the only way they could get the image back. I have asked them to open tickets with Microsoft and Datto.
They said they have but when requested I get no confirmation of ticket numbers etc. They said nothing Microsoft can do. We see VSS errors all the time and they said Microsoft will no help with these. So you feel is that NTFS errors are caused by Datto. That is truly my feeling.I am struggling here as I do like the idea of the solution but cannot get the help I feel I need. I feel like all the issues I have should have a resolution and then I do not have to look at other solutions. Basically the concern I have now is after 6 months can I really depend on this solution and the vendor.Thank you!:-)Jim.
The company I work for uses the Datto Siris as the back bone behind it's Total 360 managed service. I love this product, it is easy to use and works quite well. I get them on both the live servers and virtual images. Never had this issue before the DBOB on the live servers.I would hope they are updating and opening tickets, but cannot get any confirmation that they are. I would hope someone from Datto would step in.Thanks for the tips. Everything you have been saying has been my stance with my vendor. I do like the solution but in the end if it is not backing up my servers or not spinning up my machines well doesn't matter how affordable it is!:-)Jim.
